Nomad Nexus – Connect, Learn, Gather

Because Obviously, Y’all Have Questions

Welcome to the Nomad Nexus FAQ—where we answer your burning questions, your mildly concerning hypotheticals, and the occasional “should I really be doing this?” moment of doubt. Read on, wise traveler, and all shall be revealed.

ABOUT THE EVENT

What the heck is Nomad Nexus?

Nomad Nexus is part festival, part rest for the road weary, and 100% an experience you don’t want to miss. It’s a 10-day meetup (Oct 3-13, 2025, Oakwood, IL) for full or part-time travelers, vanlifers, RVers, skoolie dwellers, and anyone who’s traded a fixed address for a life on wheels. Think drum circles, campfires, late-night shenanigans, and a whole lot of community-building with people who just get you.

What kind of rigs can attend?

If it rolls, pops up, or exists as a weird contraption you call “home,” it’s welcome. Buses, box trucks, vans, RVs, campers, tents, cars, trucks—heck, even a spaceship if you’ve got one. Bring it!

No really, someone please bring a spaceship!

Is this event family-friendly?

Yes! There will be activities for kids, families, and grown-ups alike. That said, the overall vibe is more “feral children, high hippies, and foul mouthed nomads around a campfire” than “wholesome family BBQ.”

Do I have to attend the whole event?

Nope, but you’ll probably want to! Whether you’re in for the full 10-day experience or just swinging by for the weekend, you’re welcome. Just know that the longer you stay, the higher the chance of accidentally adopting a new road family.

What is ‘The Grown Folks Club’?

A glorious, child-free zone where adults can cut loose, enjoy themed party nights, and remember what it feels like to be 21+ (but with better booze and fewer bad decisions).

TICKETS & PARKING

Who needs a ticket?

One ticket covers your rig and the people who live in it. Guests will need a visitor pass. Your toads (aka tow vehicles) get in free—because we’re not monsters.

Are tickets refundable?

Nope. But if you give us a heads-up at least 10 days before the event, we’ll roll your ticket over as credit for next time. Life happens, we get it. You can also get the trip insurance offered at checkout for a refund in qualifying situations.

Where should I park?

Wherever your little nomadic heart desires—unless you need power, then spots are assigned. Otherwise, pick a neighborhood vibe that fits your energy. (Neighborhood list coming soon!)

Can I leave and come back?

Absolutely. Walk, drive, or take your toad for a spin—just come back.

FACILITIES & AMENITIES

Are there showers?

We’re not animals, well not entirely. Both the men’s and women’s bathhouses have two showers, so yes, you can wash off the campfire smell before it becomes your permanent personality.

Are there hookups & a dump station?

There are limited 15-amp power spots available, and water spigots are all over. No dump station on-site, but there are some nearby. You’ll manage.

Is there trash service?

Yes, there’s a dumpster, but please compact your trash and break down boxes. This isn’t a landfill, people.

Wi-Fi & cell service?

No Wi-Fi, but there’s a cell tower right across the street, so service is solid. Need Wi-Fi? Befriend a Starlink owner and bring them offerings of coffee and beer.

PETS & GENERATORS

Are pets allowed?

Yes!
Dogs must be leashed, not becuase we want them leashed but becuase of liabilities and all that jazz, but we’re working on having an off leash area. Stay tuned… And for the love of whatever you worship, police the damn poop. Nobody’s wants a PooShoo!

Cats? They do what they want, as always. Just don’t pick up random cats—they’re not lost, they live here now.

Can I bring my pet llama?

If your llama is chill, doesn’t bite, and won’t start a turf war with someone’s travel cat, sure. But if it’s one of those dramatic llamas that spits at people, maybe leave it at home.

Ok, so maybe this isn’t frequently asked but whatever, it should be!

Can I use a generator?

Yes, but keep it in the designated area and don’t run it 24/7. The “hummmm” is not a vibe. If you use it a lot or it’s loud maybe get a power site.

SELLING, VOLUNTEERING, & WORKING ON RIGS

Can I sell my goods?

Yes! You can set up shop at Makers Fest or casually sell throughout the meetup. Maybe don’t be THAT person everyone tries to avoid at Sam’s Club tho.

Perks for volunteers?

☝🏼4 free nights! (2 before & 2 after)
✌🏿Extra fun!
🫶🏻Free food! Yeah, I’ma cook up some Louisiana goodness for ya!
🖖🏽Instant friend group! (Great if you suck at small talk.)

Can we work on our rigs while there?

Absolutely! Fix your stuff, help someone else fix theirs, or just hang out and watch the chaos. Need help or want to lend a hand? Check

FUN EXTRAS

Can I come early or stay late?

Volunteers get 4 bonus days (2 before and 2 after). If you’re not a volunteer, sorry, no early or late stays—plan accordingly!

Can I fly a drone?

Heck yes!! Just try not to turn it into an aerial demolition derby. Capture those epic shots, show off your pilot skills, and please—let’s avoid mid-air drone collisions.
